ILLUMINANCE TRAINING
An Accessible Training Program
The Drones – Principles to Flight – An Accessible Training Program have been specifically designed as a practical training course for people with mobility or dexterity impairment. To secure achievement of the goal with the new training program, illuminance collaborated with Techlearn and Western Electric Sporting Association (WESA).
The aim of the course is to train attendees with the latest theoretical and practical aspects of drone piloting, upskilling them for employment opportunities.
With a world becoming more digital and automated, there is a growing need to embrace and train in new technologies. Drone-piloting opens new doors to everyone with applications in the workplace, at home or for recreation purposes. For people with disability, it has the additional benefit to assist with overcoming some obstacles that hinder their everyday lives.
Drones used to be a concept of the future, but today with the advent of microelectronics and advanced sensor technologies, they are available for anybody to enjoy either recreationally or, with the appropriate certification, commercially and professionally as well.
This introductory course will put the trainee in the driver’s seat – or should we say the Pilot’s seat, allowing them to understand the essential principles of drones, appreciate the many uses of drone technology and get the opportunity of legally and safely operating them.
The Course
With a world becoming more digital and automated, there is a growing need to embrace and train in new technologies. Drone-piloting opens new doors to everyone with applications in the workplace, at home or for recreation purposes. For people with disability, it has the additional benefit to assist with overcoming some obstacles that hinder their everyday lives.
Upon successful completion of the course all trainees will receive a personalised certificate.
1. Course Overview & Orientation
This module details the package that the trainees will receive and assists them to configure their learning environment. The objective is to plan, test and document their learning experience around drone project activities.
2. Drone History & Types
There are various types of drones and this course focuses on the multi-rotor ones. This module teach trainees about drone history, the different types and the technology that all combined makes them such an exciting object to build and operate.
3. Drone Safety & the Law
Australia’s recreational drone safety rules have been around since 2002 and are designed to protect other people in the air and on the ground. This module reviews the details and prepares learners for registration, certification and competent flying.
4. Drone Technologies & Essential Theory
This module focuses on the Quadcopter / multi-rotor aircraft and identifies and explains the function and operation of these system components along with essential information relating to the science of drones, their sensors, software and remote controllers.
5. Drone Ground school
Before any budding pilot can fly, competence in the theory of flight and the technical details associated around their drones in general must be acquired. This module does just that. Trainees are guided through the technical aspects of drone flight with particular emphasis on multi-rotor drones, flight sensors software and human interfaces.
6. Drone Flight School 1—Indoors
When the time comes for the first flight, pilots will need to understand all the components of their aircrafts and be able to adjust and fine tune their parameters for smooth and uneventful flights. This module therefore focuses on the ‘machine’ that the drone is and addresses the important system components so that the pilot and machine are one! This module culminates in an indoor flight.
7. Drone Photography, Video & Vision systems
Understanding and flying a drone is an amazing experience. By this time in the course trainees know how to maintain smooth flying conditions, and it’s time to have more fun. This module explores photography, video and the incredible vision and latest features available to drones.
8. Flight School 2—Outdoors
Flying outdoors is just as fun as flying indoors. This module will predominantly be spent outside the training room learning those flight essentials such as take offs, landings, flight parameter tuning, weather influence, flying rules and drone maintenance. There will be time for some advanced flight topics such as navigating, avoiding obstacles and racing basics.
9. Building a Drone—Overview
This training course comes with a drone to assemble, configure, program and fly. This course module also offers an opportunity to build a ‘specialised’ drone from the ground up. The instructor provides a project outline that can be adopted for hobby drone projects.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the one-day Drone – Principles to Flight training, candidates need to:
- have a mobility or dexterity impairment; and
- have the ability to operate a controller.
Venue
The course will be held at illuminance Solutions’ HQ in Perth and a suitable outdoor location in Perth CBD.
